Careers Advice Services:

The Careers Advice services at SOAS offer a range of services to support students in their career development:

  1. Application Advice (15 mins): You can receive guidance on their CVs or job applications from dedicated Application Advisors during specific hours. It's recommended for SOAS students to explore the 'Apply & Succeed - Fast track your CV' pathway via CareersZONE first. Appointments can be booked on the day either by phone, SID, or in person, and they can be either in person or virtual.

  1. Guidance (15 mins): These sessions help students in deciding their career direction after leaving SOAS or further developing their career ideas with the help of a career's practitioner. Available daily during term-time, bookings can be made by contacting the Careers Advice services and appointments can be either in person or virtual.

  1. Practice Interview (45 mins): You can schedule practice interviews to receive feedback and tips on their interview performance. Appointments should be booked at least two working days in advance, and you must have a job interview lined up. Bookings are made through the Careers Advice services, and appointments can be in person or virtual.

  1. Careers Discussion (45 mins): A longer discussion session, typically referred from a guidance session, aims to provide more comprehensive support for career development. Students are sent a link to book appointments via CareersZONE and are required to complete a confidential Careers Discussion form. Appointments can be in person or virtual.

Students are encouraged to limit booking no more than three appointments of the same type per term to ensure fair access to services. The Careers Advice services are open to feedback and aim to support students' career development learning effectively.

Internships:

Internships are a great way to get hands on experience in an industry or sector you might be looking to launch your career in.

Virtual Internship - SOAS is working with Practera, a non-profit organisation, and is offering 2-week virtual industry consulting experience - you'll work in a team of SOAS consultants for a real company/ organisation and help solve a problem they are facing.

The students that completed this last year found it hugely valuable in terms of developing their CV and employability skills.

The opportunity is open to all year 2 and 3 SOAS undergraduate students and is entirely virtual, so you do not need to be in the UK to complete the project, just be available for 2 weeks in either June or July.

The deadline to apply is this Friday (26 April) and there are some final few spots available. If you have questions, come and find us at the bottom of the central staircase in the main building.
