Climbing at the Castle
Experienced climbers
Experienced climbers are expected to complete a short test to certify that you can belay and climb safely. This enables you to join up as a member, take advantage of the discounted SOAS entry rate and climb unsupervised on any of the lead and top-rope walls.

The Castle offers varied climbing, ranging from bouldering walls...

...lovely overhung walls which offer great opportunities for hanging out with your friends ...
(Expertly demonstrated above by Rob and Dave)

..to outragously steep lead walls for the stone mad!
Beginners
Great news for those of you who have never climbed before and those who want to brush up on the basics. We have organised a deal with the Castle Climbing Wall for a beginner's introductory climbing course.
This is a five-hour basic course with a professional instructor, and would teach you:
· Warm ups and stretching.
· How to put on a harness, tie knots & belay.
· Instruction in basic climbing movement.
· Introduction to top rope routes in The Castle.
· Lots of fun.
Completing this course enables you to join up as a member, take advantage of the discounted entry rate arranged for SOAS climbers and climb unsupervised on any of the bouldering and top-rope walls.
This course normally costs £60/person, based on 6 people to one instructor, however the Castle has offered us a price of £40/person as we are a university society. Because we recommend that all beginners take this course, we will try to subsidise it further. This is a great opportunity to get 5 hours of professional climbing tuition at a fantastic rate.
Groups must have no more or no less than 6 people for the course to run.
If you would like to sign up for this course (at any time during the year) please contact Mike or Dave (details on front page or "meet the committee" page)
