SOAS Palestine Society
The ongoing relentless aggression perpetrated against the Palestinian people in their occupied homeland has dominated the discourse and awareness of the Palestine issue.
This in turn has left little space for the celebration of Palestinian identity, and the rich cultural and historical fabric of Palestine has been largely ignored.
Whether you are Palestinian or not the SOAS Palestine Society welcomes you to join and support us.
The society aims to enhance an understanding of Palestinians, their culture, heritage and their struggle for freedom and basic human rights as a prerequisite for peace.
The society's campaigns and activities include, the organisation and promotion of cultural events, such as the film festivals and exhibitions -as well as talks and seminars which both reflect the existing situation in Palestine and which seek pragmatic solutions to promote a just and lasting peace.
Who are we?
'SOAS Palestine Society' is an independent non-profit society established more than 30 years ago and is run by dedicated student members. We help to create awareness about the Palestine question and strive towards a greater national coordination between UK-based students and societies. Our goal is to present the Palestinian Cause in a clear, unified and effective manner that is accessible to all members of society. We aim to achieve this through a variety of ways, such as:
Annual Conference:
Every year we strive to bring together a variety of scholars and activist to map out past, present, and future aspects of the injustice exercised on Palestine and the Palestinians. One such example was the 2003 conference entitled Edward W. Said A Continuing legacy was held on 3rd October at the Institute of Education, Logan Hall. The one-day programme consisted of more than 12 world-renowned speakers and was attended by more than a 1000 people. Currently, we are working on getting the proceeds published and posted electronically on our website.
Annual Film Festival:
This serves as a visual way of introducing people to the Palestinian culture and giving them an insight into everyday life of Palestinians. We plan to expand our existing collection of films and documentaries, building up an archive that will be available to all students free of charge. We hope to run a film festival, which would tour UK campuses.

Annual Photo Exhibitions:
We aim to develop and update the existing Students Under Occupation exhibition in a manner that highlights the current predicament of Palestinian Students. We also want to develop our ROR- Palestinian Refugees exhibition.
Finally, we are aiming to develop another exhibition on the Wall
Literature:
A series of leaflets tackling various aspects of the conflict, such as the history of the conflict, the refugee problem and the current situation, are and will be produced.
Palestine Week:
This is an event held across UK campuses and features film screenings, Dabka dancing workshops, cuisine, music, poetry readings, art exhibitions as well as seminars/addresses by leading and pioneering figures.
