The aim of our society is to promote and spread awareness of the worsening human rights situation in the Philippines which includes, but is not limited to, extra judicial political killings and the oppression of the Muslim South in the region of Mindanao.
As the first Filipino Society at SOAS, and one of only three Filipino Societies nationwide, it is vitally important that we play and active role in spreading news of human rights abuses in the Philippines including the killing of over 750 political and human rights activists.
We intend to hold several lectures over the course of the year, and to compliment this, several film showings which will visually illustrate the human rights abuses in this country.
We also intend to host meetings with the wider CHRP group prartly so that we can become as active as possible on a national level.
